Beer Game Training
(Serious Game)

Presentation

The training is based on the serious game Beer Game created in the 1960s by Jay Forrester, an electronic engineer, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Each team represents a company that produces and distributes beer. Each link in the company (factory, logistics base, wholesaler, retailer) defines and applies its supply strategy. In a very simple way (only one product), the game makes the players aware of stock management, the importance of forecasting and the need to communicate between the links in the supply chain.

Objectives

At the end of the training, the trainee will be able to understand :
• The concept of cost of ownership and cost of breakage;
• The link between stock levels and service quality;
• The interdependence of management decisions in supply chains;
• The importance of information sharing and cooperation in the supply chain;
• The key role of forecasting and safety stock management;
• The “whiplash effect” and how to avoid it.
