Formation Beer Game
(Serious Game)

Overview

The training is based on the serious game Beer Game, created in the 1960s by Jay Forrester, an electrical engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Each team represents a company that produces and distributes beer.
Each link in the company (factory, distribution center, wholesaler, retailer) defines and implements its own supply strategy. Despite its apparent simplicity (only one product), the game helps raise participants’ awareness of inventory management, the importance of forecasting, and the need for communication between the different links in the supply chain.

Objectives

At the end of the training, participants will be able to understand:

  • The concept of inventory holding costs and stockout costs;
  • The link between inventory levels and service quality;
  • The interdependence of decision-making within supply chains;
  • The importance of information sharing and collaboration across the supply chain;
  • The key role of forecasting and safety stock management;
  • The “bullwhip effect” and the solutions to mitigate it.

Training Performance Rate

Satisfaction Rate: 89.27% – This rate is based on training sessions delivered in 2025 and 2026.
Each participant evaluates several criteria using a score from 0 to 4.
The total score is then compared to the maximum possible score.
The average score given here is therefore 3.57/4.

Dropout Rate: 0% – No participant has ever withdrawn from this training once started.

Assessment Methods

Participants are assessed through a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) at the end of the training.

A certificate is issued to each participant at the end of the training, with three possible levels:

  • A – Knowledge mastered
  • B – Knowledge acquired
  • C – Knowledge not acquired
